end of day 9

Found these cows half way down the lancaster canal obviuosly enjoying a bit of a drink in the heat. Speaking of which it was very hot today which brings its own problems on a bike and made it a long day. Supposedly this was an easier day, but the climbs early in the morning on the edge of the lake district were some of the worst we have seen yet and got us very tired with a long way still to go. Phils gps gadget had a very different opinion to us on the way into preston and started beeping like mad as we ignored it in favour of the maps, but then as a reprieve it did get us to the b&b which was a bit tricky. Arrived in preston just after 6 after a big push on the last 30km. Bit sweaty and hot on arrival but glad to be here. Phils wife and 3 kids joined us here on their way to blackpool tomorrow so a bit of a lively meal for a change, plus a much needed change of kit has come with her. Heading to whitchurch tomorrow which means getting across the big blob of towns east of liverpool. We have our own route and plan to cross the river in warrington where it seems a bit less busy, hopefully the bridge is still there.
